Journal of Smart Agriculture and Environmental Technology (JOSAET)

The Journal of Smart Agriculture and Environmental Technology (JOSAET) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), can support scholarly writing and editorial processes. However, the use of AI must be transparent, ethical, and consistent with the principles of scientific integrity. Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for their work and decisions.

This policy follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other internationally recognized publication ethics guidelines.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted tools to improve grammar, language, readability, formatting, or translation of manuscripts.

However, authors are solely responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of all content submitted to JOSAET.

AI tools must not:

• be listed as an author or co-author;
• generate, fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data or results;
• create misleading figures, tables, or images without clear disclosure;
• generate fictitious references or inaccurate citations;
• replace scientific judgment, interpretation, or critical analysis.

Whenever AI tools have been used in preparing a manuscript, authors must disclose this use in a separate section entitled "Declaration of AI-Assisted Technologies" before the References or in the Acknowledgements.

Example:

The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) to improve the grammar and readability of the manuscript. The authors reviewed, edited, and take full responsibility for the final content.

Failure to disclose substantial AI use may constitute a breach of publication ethics.
2. AI Cannot Be an Author
AI systems cannot satisfy the criteria for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accountability of scientific work.

Accordingly, JOSAET does not permit AI tools or Large Language Models to be listed as authors or co-authors.
3. Use of AI by Reviewers
Peer reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all manuscripts.

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, figures, tables, or supplementary materials to publicly available AI platforms or generative AI systems, as doing so may violate confidentiality and intellectual property rights.

Any AI-assisted tools used by reviewers must not compromise manuscript confidentiality or influence the review process beyond language assistance.

Editorial decisions must always be based on the reviewer's independent scientific judgment.</p>
4. Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted tools only for limited editorial purposes, such as language improvement or administrative support.

Editors must not use AI to make editorial decisions or upload confidential manuscript content to publicly accessible AI systems.

All editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board.

5. Research Integrity

JOSAET does not permit the use of AI to fabricate or manipulate scientific evidence.

Any manuscript found to contain:

• fabricated or falsified data generated by AI;
• manipulated images without disclosure;
• fabricated references;
• misleading AI-generated scientific content;
• undisclosed substantial AI-generated text,

may be rejected or, if already published, corrected or retracted in accordance with the journal's Retraction Policy and Publication Ethics.

6. Editorial Assessment
The Editorial Office reserves the right to request additional information regarding the use of AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation.

If necessary, authors may be asked to revise the manuscript or provide clarification regarding AI use before peer review or publication.

7. Policy Updates
As AI technologies continue to evolve, JOSAET will periodically review and update this policy to ensure alignment with international best practices in scholarly publishing.
